Click to view slideshow.Winter is drawing in here in York, with dusk arriving earlier and earlier and the temperatures dropping. The city is beautiful with the start of the twinkling fairy lights and Christmas decorations being installed, and giant fir trees being hoisted into position. Here at the boutique we have loads of exciting knitwear and goodies to keep you cosy and warm and cossetted through the chill. We’re preparing for our next fashion event at The Dean Court and also gearing up for the St Nicholas Fair and the Festival of Angels (where you’re guaranteed snow as well as hot drinks and fabulous ice sculptures as well as unique stalls and shops in the Quarter) You’ll need some of our fabulous thick fair isle socks made from 100% wool in Nepal, lambswool gloves, mohair legwarmers and a crochet beanie hat to keep you toasty! And that warm feeling will continue inside as you know you are supporting Fair Trade and ethically produced goods-what’s not to like?

She Loves York Biltmore Event

Didn’t we have a fabulous time last night at an exclusive “She Loves York” girlie charity evening in aid of Macmillan. It was great to have my lovely shop assistants Janet and Plum modelling some of the new autumn/winter collection.

At the event we launched our Autumn Competition for the chance to win a £100 clothing voucher to be spent in the shop. We welcome all of our customers to pop in to the shop and enter the raffle competition which will be drawn on 31st October 2011.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2011

February 28^th – March 13^th

Tomorrow is the beginning of Fairtrade fortnight! It was held for the first time in 1995, when a cocoa farmer from Belize toured the country during the first Fairtrade Fortnight. Nowadays, it is an annual celebration of ethical trading and subsequently a promotion for fairer economic opportunities for producers in third world countries.

During this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight, there is special attention for the production of cotton. Unfortunately, conventional cotton in Europe and the US are highly subsidized, driving down prices and leading to overproduction. This mechanism is also known as the Great Cotton Stitch-Up, which creates poverty for producers in developing countries. As a result, many try to support their livelihoods with only $2 a day.

Fairtrade cotton, which we sell in One boutique, provides a much better alternative. The Fairtrade minimum price ensures that producers are paid sufficiently and the Fairtrade premium provides funds to help build up communities. This provides resources for investments ranging from education and health care to the construction of a well for drinking water. By choosing for Fairtrade products, you not only counteract negative market mechanisms such as the Great Cotton Stitch-Up, you also support the well being of producers in third world countries.

We’re happy to announce that our boutique will soon be moving to new premises on Grape Lane, just off Low Petergate, York. If you’re not sure of where to find us we’ll be close by to the Minster, in fact here’s a map of our new location (just zoom in to the pointer marked A):

Haus Magazine Ethical Fashion Shoot

Recently at ONE we were delighted to be the focus of a fashion shoot in the summer edition of York University’s HAUS magazine. Pieces from our new summer collection were brilliantly showcased in their vibrant feature on ethical fashion.

The shoot presents some of our gorgeous dresses in a way that is fun, unique and edgy- just how we want you to feel once you step into our clothes!

We love the images that the students at HAUS have created- and we’re even more proud that the boutique, and our message of ethical fashion, has been given such special acclaim. Here’s a sneak preview of some of the images to be included in the upcoming feature:
